There’s never a dull moment in Downtown Vancouver. No matter what time of year you visit, you can bet there’s a big-time festival, concert, game or special event happening. Here’s a list of some of our favourite annual events, all within easy walking distance of our Ramada Vancouver Downtown hotel.
The largest offshore fireworks competition in the world, Vancouver’s annual Celebration of Light attracts approximately 400,000 spectators to the beaches of English Bay on a few special nights in late July and early August. English Bay is just a short (and scenic) walk along the seawall from our hotel.
Attracting more than 700,000 people, Vancouver’s annual Pride parade is among the biggest and best in the world. It boasts a vibrant festival atmosphere with all kinds of entertainment and vendors as more 150 floats make their way down the city’s historic Davie Village (just a few blocks from our hotel).
Free of the glitz and glamour of some of the higher profile festivals, but equally well stocked with world-class films, VIFF has a reputation for being one of the “purest” of the major North American film festivals. Check it out for a sneak peak at some world-class films from around the globe.
Beat the winter blues by taking in some spectacular and subversive live theatre, dance, film and more. A showcase of some of the finest up-and-coming and underground performers from Vancouver and the world-over, it’s a must-see for anyone with a penchant for edginess in its many forms.
See hilarious improv acts from around the world at this popular performance festival, taking place on Vancouver’s Granville Island (located just minutes from our hotel). The festival showcases nearly 30 performances of everything from old-fashioned pantomime to interactive stand-up comedy.
For more than a quarter century, the annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival has served to showcase the stories and cinematic art of LGBTQ individuals and communities. In addition to celebration and sharing these stories, the festival aims to foster social change through education and dialogue.
The biggest Canadian football game of the year happens here in Vancouver at BC Place Stadium on November 30th. Much like its NFL equivalent the Super Bowl, the Grey Cup is the culmination of the Canadian Football League playoffs, matching up the league’s two best teams for a thrilling championship game that no football fan will want to miss
